Tonight’s Girmit event in Labasa cancelled due to bad weather

Due to current weather conditions and in consideration of public safety, the Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs has cancelled the scheduled program for this evening’s Girmit Day commemoration at Subrail Park.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad was supposed to officiate at the event tonight where direct descendants of Girmitiyas were to be honoured.

The Ministry says as of now, the program scheduled for tomorrow will proceed as planned.

The event will be officiated by the Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.

Indian Minister of State for External Affairs of India, Pabitra Margherita will be part of the events tomorrow as well.
