iTaukei communities are now being targeted to be assisted with innovative poverty elimination plans and sustainable rural development.
Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Ifereimi Vasu says the Great Council of Chiefs tour to China has built their knowledge and understanding that they have witnessed first-hand with the transformative power of targeted rural development and technology integration and it opens the door to uplift rural communities.
Vasu says that strengthening partnership with China is a testament to the power of international collaboration.
He says during their visit, both sides directed their intention to strengthen bilateral agreements focusing on development cooperation, technical assistance, capacity building, and technology transfer.
The Minister says the GCC is committed to a transparent and accountable process, with a detailed presentation planned for the first GCC meeting in 2024.
He adds this is a new beginning towards a future where no iTaukei community is left behind in their pursuit of progress and prosperity.
The GCC visited the provinces of Shanghai, Hangzhou and Quanzhou, and engaged with various Chinese officials to explore successful approaches to poverty alleviation.
