The Fiji School of Medicine needs to stand - alone because we are not producing sufficient doctors and quality doctors that we need.
These are the words of Executive Director of Oceania Hospitals Limited Pramesh Sharma who was speaking at the 'Win Against Cancer' seminar hosted by MIOT International at the Grand Pacific Hotel.
Sharma also raised concern that there is a need to change the curriculum at Fiji School of Medicine.
He says they are recipients of products. He says he is not questioning the ability of the products coming out but he is questioning the ability for specialist trainee skills.
Sharma says he has spoken to the previous Health Minister Rosy Akbar about the opportunity of detaching the Fiji School of Medicine from the Fiji National University. He says it is a strong view that he holds on this matter.
Minister for Health Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete says that he was a product of Fiji National University. He says he has taken note of the request.
