“The badge is not a symbol of power or a show of force but is a symbol of great responsibility, good leadership and dedication to the task at hand.”
These are the words of the Secretary-General to Parliament Jeanette Emberson while speaking at the induction of prefects of Baulevu High School today.
Emberson says it is also not a popularity contest, but about choosing the prefects who are prepared to serve.
She says what is happening today is not just the school giving the new prefects their official titles or special roles as prefects but the whole school is investing in their new leaders, not just for the school year but also grooming them for the future.

Emberson then told the prefects that as Secretary-General to Parliament, she is the head of a team of about 80 staff and being in this position is just like a prefect which comes with a lot of responsibilities.
Emberson says she is invested with certain powers under the constitution however, these powers are exercised through systems in place that allows for fairness and good governance.
She says just like a prefect, she has to maintain integrity, have confidence to do the work, be a good listener, a good communicator, be honest and accountable to others.
Meanwhile, the Head Girl of Baulevu High School, Natasha Prakash has paid tribute to all the teachers who kept guiding them during the difficult period where students could not attend face to face classes.
She says the main thing is that teachers did not lose hope although they had to teach through other means including zoom sessions.
Prakash says the task ahead for her will not be easy as she will have to gain the trust and respect of fellow students. She says her focus will be to guide and motivate the students of Baulevu High School.
