Thirty‑two youths who participated in a farm management training course in the district of Savatu in Navosa have been advised to practice sustainable farming methods in order to ensure soil fertility and longevity for their future generations.
Lowami Sagania of Buyabuya Village says the training was helpful to them as young farmers because their knowledge on sustainable farming methods has greatly improved.
She says one of the most important things she learnt from the training is conserving our land through different types of farming practices such as contouring.
Sagania says they used to plant on their hills anyhow and did not know that they were contributing to soil erosion.
The training which was held at Koro Village focused on farm management, food security, farming as a business, classification of land, calculating farm produce and generated revenue, slope farming, building of nurseries and seedling preparation.
