Concerns have been raised about the increasing time young people are spending on mobile games, which is limiting their participation in physical activities.
Fiji National Sports Commission CEO, Peter Mazey highlighted this to fijivillage News when asked about the new challenges they face in the sports industry.
Mazey says that this issue is likely to grow as mobile gaming becomes more popular.
He says that engaging in sports helps youth to avoid negative influences, such as drugs and therefore they are collaborating with community police to tackle this issue.
Mazey says there are ongoing efforts with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education to address drug-related challenges facing young people.
The CEO further says if youths are addicted to AI-generated or mobile gaming, it is not helping them stay away from drugs and is making them lazy.
Mazey has expressed his satisfaction with the recent passing of the Anti-Doping Act and mentioned that the new Board is expected to be announced soon.
