188 of the 300 victims of sexual offences last year were under the age of 18 years.
According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the youngest accused person was a 12 year old boy while the youngest victim was a 3 year old girl.
322 people were charged with a total of 768 counts of serious sexual offences as at 31st December 2022.
Of the 322 accused persons two were females, 41 were juveniles and four were police officers.
There were 498 offences of rape, 13 offences of attempted rape, 19 of abduction with intent to commit rape, 3 of assault with intent to commit rape, 14 of aiding and abetting rape, 1 case of domestic trafficking in children, 29 offences of indecent assault, 20 offences of defilement and 171 of sexual assault.
The DPP’s Office says of the 300 victims, 283 were female and 17 were male victims.
There were 147 offences that occurred in domestic relationships or where the accused was known to the victims.
58 cases were withdrawn after discontinuances (Nolle Prosequi) were filed in 2022.
