Cardiologist at Oceania Hospitals Pte Limited Doctor Prakash Gore.

An Interventional Cardiologist at Oceania Hospitals Pte Limited Doctor Prakash Gore says there is definitely a high incidence of heart disease in young patients in Fiji.

Doctor Gore says the youngest patient that he has treated for a heart attack was 28-years-old.

He says he had to do a cardiac stent for the patient.

Doctor Gore says heart disease is very common and it is affecting everyone.

He says some patients are coming with multiple blockages.

Doctor Gore says it is hard to comment further on the incidence of heart disease in Fiji because there is no data or study available.

He adds all he can give are his observational findings.

Oceania Hospitals Pte Limited Executive Director Pramesh Sharma says realistically what they are trying to achieve this year is at least get open heart surgery options locally.

Oceania Hospitals hosted a discussion on cardiac issues at Holiday Inn in Suva today.
