Health Minister Rosy Akbar feels we must target the younger generation if we are to carry forward our language traditions and identity.
She made the comments at the World Hindi Day celebrations organised by the Indian High Commission last night.
Akbar says the current generation has gone into the modern world so much that people sometimes have difficulties speaking their own language.
She says it will be beneficial if the younger generation is taught their language and traditions.
The Indian High Commission is also planning to launch a Hindi website in Fiji in the coming months.
