Team Fiji athlete, Braelyn Yee has set her sight on securing a spot at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games as she gears up for the semi-finals of the senior women’s 100 metres today.
The former St. Joseph's Secondary School sprinter qualified for the semi finals after finishing in second place in the heats yesterday.
Yee says her first race at the Oceania Championships is all about doing better and improving from her last invitational race that took place last Saturday.
She says her race during the invitational tournament did not turn out good but she felt she did come back stronger and better in her first run giving her 100 percent in the race yesterday and she is happy to qualify for the semi finals.
The 22-year-old says it is always an honour to be representing Fiji on the international stage and she is looking forward to doing that again this year.
Yee also revealed that athletics was not the first sport that she represented Fiji in as she also represented the country in Karate.
She is urging young athletes to never give up on their dreams.
The women’s 100 metres semi final will be at 3.45pm today.
Meanwhile, day 5 of the Championship is currently underway at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva and other upcoming events for today include the women's under 18 400 metres hurdles, senior men's 400 metres hurdles, under-18 women's 3000 metres, under-18 women's 100 metres, and under-18 men's 100 metres to name a few.
