A Year 12 student who defiled a 15-year-old girl in Navosa in August, 2017 has received a suspended sentence from High Court Judge, Justice Daniel Goundar.
The 18-year-old had pleaded guilty to a count of defilement.
The court was told that the girl was a Year 8 student at the time of the incident and staying in the school dormitory.
She had secretly met the boy outside the school dormitory and had consensual sexual intercourse with him.
The court was further informed that the girl later accompanied
him to a farm house and had a meal together.
The matter came to light the following day when a school teacher found out that the girl was missing from her dormitory the previous night.
Justice Goundar says the accused is a young and a first time offender, pleaded guilty at the first opportunity, is genuinely remorseful and the chances for rehabilitation are high.
The 18-year-old has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, suspended for two years.
