Principal Economic Planning Officer Agriculture Trade Pauliasi Tuilau says they are focusing in developing some key commodities that the government is looking at and one of these is yaqona.

Tuilau says their main objective is to present to the farmers and stakeholders the scope of the National Kava legislation and the yaqona bill so issues of concern could be clarified.

He spoke at a consultation program with yaqona farmers, exporters, and processors from Suva, Lautoka and Labasa.

Tuilau says a lot of development going on with yaqona is in line with the governments focus to develop it into the industry level.

He adds that they are working on improving yaqona as an export product and its access to the international market.

Meanwhile Tuilau says they are going to be in Kadavu this week and they are expecting 100 farmers and middlemen to attend the consultation.
