There are worrying concerns as 72 people attempted to commit suicide between January to May this year according to Empower Pacific statistics.
Empower Pacific Chief Executive Officer, Patrick Morgam says from the counselling calls, they also received 28 calls where people had thoughts of deliberate self-harm.
Last year, during the same period, they provided counselling support to 87 people out of which 67 had attempted suicide.
Morgam says the reasons why some individuals attempt suicide or resort to self-harm, are because of relationship or family issues, a history of depression, abuse or domestic violence and stress.
He says detecting suicide risk within our community is essential to save lives.
He says such cases are counselled by professionals who are based in different districts around the country.
Empower Pacific encourages people to reach out to them through their helpline 5626 or walk-in discussions in their branches.
