Works at the Tubou Village Jetty in Lakeba will start next month and is expected to be completed by July this year.
This has been revealed in Parliament by the Acting Minister for Local Government, Infrastructure and Transport Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum when questioned by SODELPA MP Semesa Karavaki on the progress of construction works for the new Lakeba Jetty as announced by the Prime Minister in the last Budget session.
The Acting Minister says there are two phases to the work, that is the rehabilitation of the current Tubou Village Jetty and the relocation of the Tubou village Jetty to the new Wainiyacia site.
Sayed-Khaiyum says that the repairing work for the Tubou Village Jetty is part of the Jetty maintenance Package which also includes repair works for Jetty’s in Cicia, Kavala, Rotuma and Baulevu.
The total cost of the Jetty maintenance package is estimated at FJD$4.1million which has been allocated to FRA.
Sayed Khaiyum adds that the relocation work of the Tubou Jetty which is the second phase will start on July 2019, however, investigation and design work will commence soon after the consultancy Tender is awarded in May.
