The Chelsea striker also had a penalty saved, denying her a hat-trick.
Kerr's goals for Australia meant she became the highest scorer for the Matildas in Olympic Games history.
Sweden's second victory moved them to the top of their group, booking their place in the knockout stages with a game to spare, as strong contenders to win gold.
Meanwhile, Zambia captain Barbra Banda scored a second successive hat-trick as the African nation drew 4-4 with China.
In other results, Canada beat Chile 2-1, Great Britain defeated Japan 1-0, USA thumped New Zealand 6-1 and Brazil drew 1-all with the Netherlands.
The men's second round of competition will commence today with Egypt facing Argentina at 7.30pm, New Zealand will take on Honduras at 8pm, France will play South Africa at 8pm, Australia will meet Spain at 9.30pm and Saudi Arabia will face Germany at 11.30pm.
