India suffered a shocking 58-run defeat by New Zealand in their opening match of the Women’s T20 World Cup tournament in Dubai this morning.

The White Ferns were on a dismal run of form, losing their 10 previous T20s, but came out with admirable aggression from the outset by 160 runs and 4wickets.

India, one of the pre-tournament contenders, fought back strongly in the middle overs but fell short.

India will meet Pakistan at 10am tomorrow, while New Zealand will face Australia next Tuesday.
