Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Mereseini Vuniwaqa says women’s empowerment is an important agenda for the Fijian Government and they are proud to inform that it is part of the 5‑20 years National Development Plan as well.

She made the comments while meeting the Indonesian Minister for Women Empowerment and Child Protection Madam Yohana Susana Yembisei.

Vuniwaqa says this is a guiding tool for them in nation building and they are committed to ensure that women are not left behind.

She adds for the gender agenda to become a national priority, a lot of work from a lot of agencies was required.

She says their pledge to improve the protection, welfare and safety of our children also remains an important agenda to the Ministry and the Fijian Government and they have in place several laws and policies that guide the Ministry and provide overall legal redress to the issues of abuse and neglect towards our children.

Vuniwaqa says they are very thankful to their partners at the community levels, Women’s NGO and the greater Civil Society, other Government agencies, Development Partners and their bilateral partners.
