Despite living in a community where males are always the head in everything, it does not diminish women to participate in meetings like the Great Council of Chiefs because some of us a born with chiefly titles.
This has been highlighted by the Na Marama Bale Na Roko Tui Dreketi, Ro Teimumu Kepa after the opening of the GCC meeting at Yatu Lau Lagoon Resort.
While speaking at the event, Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka said if we can unite around the concept of proclaiming an Ocean of Peace, we will be custodians of a powerful symbol of co-existence and friendship.
Rabuka says Fiji cannot pursue the Ocean of Peace project by itself and it requires the support of the Pacific Islands Forum.
He says peace does not mean that the states will relinquish normal security and legal arrangements but the governments should always have these in place to protect their sovereignty, their citizens and natural resources.
The Prime Minister says the re-establishment of the GCC heralds a new era of governance, one that recalls it’s illustrious past achievements while embracing the challenges and opportunities of the present and future.
He adds to let us support its revitalized mission, engage in its endeavours, and contribute to its success, we can ensure that the GCC stands not only as a symbol of our past but as a beacon for our future - a future marked by unity, respect, and shared prosperity.
