A prosecution witness in the trial of Jone Vakarisi Junior told the Suva High Court that the fire started from the floor in the seating room and spread to the back of the house.

Vakarisi is charged with a count each of arson and assault causing actual bodily harm.

Jone Vakarisi Junior with others is alleged to have set fire to the property of a man in Nasinu between the 5th and the 6th of September last year.

It is also alleged that Vakarisi with others between the 5th and 6th of September last year assaulted a man.

Petero Nodrakoro who has been a fire officer for the past ten years told the court that the house was engulfed in flames within five minutes.

He says the fire fighters arrived on the scene within three minutes of when they received the call and saw the house was engulfed in flames.

When asked by defence lawyer if he can confirm if the cause of fire was determined to which Nodrakoro said no.

He also said that he does not know the person who would have started the fire.

The trial continues before Judge Justice Vinsent Perera.
