Ahead of the release of his fourth Bad Boys movie this summer, Will Smith revived his Men in Black character for a surprise performance at this year's Coachella festival.
The cameo appearance came during J Balvin's Sunday night set, which was themed around UFOs. During his set, the singer (clad in a shimmery, chrome, sci-fi outfit) summoned Smith, who took the stage in full Agent J costume. After yelling "Coachella!!" Smith went right into rapping the words to "Men in Black," the song he wrote for the original 1997 film, in front of a giant alien head.
At the end of the song, dancers dragged Balvin offstage while Smith flashed the crowd with a Neuralyzer, the device used by Men in Black agents to wipe the memory of people who encounter aliens. Balvin eventually returned to the stage to perform his song "In Da Ghetto."
Smith has been a fan of Balvin for years. In 2018, he recorded a video for Instagram dancing to "X," the hit single by Balvin and Nicky Jam, and singing along to the Spanish lyrics. Smith then collaborated with Jam on "Live It Up," the official song of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
As with the book tour for Jada Pinkett Smith's recent memoir Worthy, Smith's Coachella performance was a family affair. Jada and son Jaden Smith were in the audience, and shared videos to their Instagram Stories. Daughter Willow Smith was also in attendance, but took to the stage like her dad to perform her song "Big Feelings" with Balvin.
