Whiteside appointed RBF Governor

President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau has appointed Barry Whiteside as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji following consultations with the Acting Minister for Finance Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Sayed-Khaiyum said Whiteside has been acting as the Governor for over three months and it is timely that a substantive appointment is made.

He said this appointment demonstrates Government’s continuing efforts to enhance confidence and certainty in the banking sector as well as within the financial sector.

Sayed-Khaiyum said that Whiteside has been with the RBF since 1976 and brings with him vast experience and knowledge to this position.

He added the appointment is for three years effective from 5 May 2011.
