The happiest day in the lives of a couple has turned into a nightmare for a former Fijian citizen after the house where his wedding was taking place was destroyed in a fire on Friday in Auckland New Zealand.
According to New Zealand Herald, the groom Ashnil Nandan was still covered in yellow turmeric from the Hindu wedding ceremony at Walden Place in Mangere.
According to the groom's brother, Nilesh Nandan, more than 100 guests were expected to arrive Friday including families from Fiji.
He said that the wedding ceremony was taking place beneath a canopy in the back garden when he heard what sounded like a gunshot ring out.
Nandan said than they saw smoke and the fire and could not do anything and just tried to save themselves.
No guests were injured but the house was destroyed.
He also said that the house was rented by his parents, who had lived there for about seven years.
Investigation is underway to determine the cause of fire.
