Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Professor Biman Prasad says he is aware of the transformational work already being done to make the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service a trusted, efficient, service driven tax and customs administration that minimises the tax gap and maintains the protection of Fiji’s borders.
While speaking to staff during a welcome ceremony at the FRCS Headquarters, Professor Prasad says in this difficult environment, it is not just enough for the agency to become a revenue collection agency and he hopes that the new FRCS will be a bit more proactive in partnering with the businesses and taxpayers.
The Finance Minister further says if they build their businesses and they work with FRCS closely, it is good for the organization, the government and the country.
Professor Prasad adds they will appoint a 10 member fiscal review committee.
He says the committee will include experts, people who understand the nuances of revenue and expenditure, the fiscal studies that the government needs to adapt and what this government is going to adopt in the medium and long term.
Professor Prasad says the fiscal review committee will advise their ministry and the government to undertake appropriate policies that fit well in terms of the overall development objectives of the country.
