Fiji Deaf Rugby 7s Women Team captain Kuini Marama says they want to thank God for helping them win gold at the 2024 Australian Deaf Games in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, NSW, Australia.
Marama says they went through 5 months of struggle and training to prepare for the games.
She says they also want to thank their coach, sponsors, officials, the deaf community, the Board and sub committees
Marama adds they are thankful to the Fijian community in Australia for supporting them with their meals.
She says their coach encouraged them to always put God first in everything before they departed Fiji to come to Australia.
Fiji beat New South Wales Barbarians 19-0 and 33-14 in their first two games however they lost 17-10 in the last game.
Fiji finished the tournament with 9 points while NSW Barbarians had 4 points.
The management says this is the first time the Fiji Deaf Women’s team has played a rugby game.
Fiji’s Ethel Shute was the Best Player of the Australian Deaf Games for the women’s competition.
