Suva Rugby Union General Secretary, Nemani Tuifagalele says they need the Police Rugby Club to keep participating in their club competition after the decision by the Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew to stop all police teams from participating in any local sports this year for the time being.
Tuifagalele says there are a lot of community clubs in their competition and to have the Police Rugby Club being part of it, contributes more to the diminishing of crimes committed in these community clubs.
He says the Police Rugby Club are the current holder of the Escott Shield and they have been one of the healthiest and active clubs in their competition over the years.
He adds a lot of police rugby players as well have secured professional rugby contracts overseas and that is because they were part of the club competitions and provincial levels.
Tufagalele says he will try and follow up with the Acting Commissioner of Police on this matter.
Tuifagalele further says he hopes that the right decision will be made by the authorities and allow the police rugby players to get back to playing club rugby and provincial-level rugby.
