Energy Fiji Limited says they have not received any rain at the Monasavu dam site in the last six weeks.
Chief Executive Officer Hasmukh Patel says they are only getting about 25% of the electricity requirements of Viti Levu from the Monasavu Hydro scheme.
He says almost about 65% to 75% of the electricity in Viti Levu is currently being generated through diesel generators.
Patel says the main aim is to conserve water at Monasavu so that we can make sure that the power station can run on a daily basis.
Patel says the water level at the Monasavu dam is now 21 metres above critical level.
Patel says they are currently spending about $17M a month for fuel.
