We have not heard of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces reconciling with the ordinary people like the Indo Fijian community who were victims of coups, and this is a concerning factor.
National Farmers Union President, Surend Lal highlighted this during the establishment of the Fiji Truth and Reconciliation consultation at Kshatriya Hall in Labasa.
Lal says until today the Indo-Fijian community has no trust in the military because they have lost faith in their duties since the ones who have suffered the most, have been missed out.
He says he is also concerned whether Fiji will have some legislation in the future to safeguard the Indo-Fijian community.
While responding to Lal, Steering Committee Chairperson Sashi Kiran says the Indo-Fijian community are a minority group and that’s a fact.
Kiran says the RFMF is looking and working on reconciliation within the military as a lot of things have happened within the military that the RFMF is looking at internally.
She says the reconciliation process at the moment is the internal process with the soldiers and ex-soldiers, and this is the RFMF’s initiative.
