‘We don’t deserve to be treated like that’
That is the comment from Acting Police Commissioner, Rusiate Tudravu after a number of people including juveniles have been questioned for allegedly assaulting Police officers.
He says Police are doing their job.
Tudravu says people are asking for Police to do their job and they are doing that by beefing up their man power and doing patrols but some people are going against that.
Three juveniles aged 15 years were questioned for allegedly stoning a Police officer who was walking towards the Vatuwaqa Police Post last Thursday.
Police say the 20 year old officer was returning to the post when he was allegedly followed by some youths who swore and threw stones at him and also threw stones at the Community Post.
Five men in their 20s are in police custody at the Nakasi Police Station for allegedly stoning a Police Special Response Unit vehicle along Wainunu Road in Nakasi on Friday night.
The five allegedly threw stones at the vehicle while officers were on mobile patrol causing damage to the vehicle's tail gate light.
Three juveniles aged 17 and 16 years were also questioned for the same incident.
A 22-year-old tertiary student is in custody after he allegedly assaulted a police officer along the Tavakubu Road in Lautoka.
The suspect's vehicle was seized by the victim and another officer on Friday night as he was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
It is alleged the suspect followed the victim, and when he saw the officer driving his private vehicle towards the Lautoka Police Station, he confronted him and committed the alleged offence.
He remains in custody at the Lautoka Police Station as investigations continue.
