Suva Grammar School is now saying that the student who was sent home last week for late arrival was not expelled.

A senior school official has told Fijivillage that the Year 9 student is still registered as a student in the school and was never expelled.

According to the school, the student was sent home because he was skipping classes.

A detailed report addressing the circumstances surrounding why the student was sent home has been sent to the Office of the Director Secondary.

Fijivillage has received confirmation that a report has been received by the Education Ministry.

The mother of the student has also approached the Education Ministry.

Minister Doctor Mahendra Reddy had said that Suva Grammar School is raising their standard under a new leadership and they have the Ministry’s total support.

When asked about teachers having the authority to send students home, Reddy says teachers are not allowed to do that.

The teachers are also not allowed to give students detention if they are late to school.

He says there are procedures that need to be followed and the parents need to be called in and given an explanation.
