Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says they cannot stop anybody from forming a political party.
Sayed-Khaiyum made this comment in parliament after SODELPA MP Ro Filipe Tuisawau questioned about the number of political parties in Fiji during the debate on the Electoral Amendment Bill.
The Attorney-General highlighted that the 2013 Constitution says that every citizen has the freedom to make political choices, and the right to form or join a political party, participate in the activities of or recruit members for a political party and campaign for a political party, candidate or cause.
Sayed-Khaiyum says to suit his narrative, Ro Filipe is saying to stop people from forming political parties.
He further says the opposition talks about the lack of democracy, when they are fundamentally undermining a basic principle of democracy.
