We are here as your Government to serve you and as the Tui Cakau and Speaker of Parliament Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu has said, we will do so till the very end.
This was highlighted by the Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka at the traditional ceremony of thanksgiving known as the ‘Vasenuqanuqa’ by the people of Cakaudrove at the chiefly village of Somosomo in Taveuni.
He also acknowledged the support of the Vanua and quoted the words of the founder of Methodism, Reverend John Wesley - “Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways you can, In all the places you can, At all the times you can, To all the people you can, As long as ever you can.”
Meanwhile, Ratu Naiqama says the leadership may be new with this new term of four years but the hands at the helm is an old one.
He says this celebration also recognises his appointment as Speaker of Parliament and this is something new but his family's participation in politics has been in their bloodline for a very long time.
The Turaga Bale na Tui Cakau acknowledged the presence of Lynda Tabuya and Alitia Cirikiyasawa who have maternal links to the province of Cakaudrove and Opposition MP Brigadier General (Retired) Iowane Naivalurua who is also from the province.
Also attending the traditional ceremony of thanksgiving are Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Filimoni Vosarogo, Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Atonio Lalabalavu, Assistant Minister for Home Affair Ratu Rakuita Solesole Sauramaeva Vakalalabure, Assistant Minister for Rural, Maritime Development and Disaster Management Jovesa Vocea, and Assistant Minister for Education Iliesa Vanawalu.
