England’s misery road to the Rugby World Cup continues as they are faced with another huge blow with star winger Anthony Watson missing the entire tournament after suffering a calf injury.
After captain Owen Farrell and Billy Vunipola’s bans were issued ruling them out of the critical opener against Argentina on September 9 in Marseille, England has now lost their first-choice winger.
Watson suffered in last Saturday’s 29-10 loss to Ireland and has been replaced in the 33-man World Cup squad by Jonny May, who will start in this weekend’s last RWC warm-up clash against the Fiji Water Flying Fijians.
Coach Steven Borthwick says it is really disappointing but the inclusion of May will help fill the gap.
But on another note, Borthwick was able to deliver a positive update on Tom Curry after confirming that he will return to full training imminently having missed all four warm-up Tests because of an ankle injury.
England will host the Flying Fijians at 2.15am Sunday at Twickenham Stadium.
