32 families in Bukama Village in Yasawa will soon have a good and reliable source of water as the Water Authority of Fiji will carry out upgrading works to the rural water supply system.
Water Authority says the project will see the construction of a pump house and fence, a new pipeline laid, repair of the existing water tank, repairs to the rainwater harvesting systems, installation of new culverts on wells, and the installation of fittings.
Bukama Village Headman, Sakaraia Ravave says they have struggled over the years to manage with the little water they have.
Ravave adds that for them the rainwater is specifically for drinking and there has not been any rain in a while, so they are boiling water from the borehole.
The Village Headman says once this is completed, they will not have to wait more than 4 to 5 days for water since they will have access to water everyday.
Water Authority says this initiative will cost $98,589.
