Water restoration works are underway after the planned water works at Waila for the connection of Viria Water Supply to the Waila Water Treatment Plant system have been completed successfully.
WAF Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg says as of yesterday morning, WAF teams were conducting flushing and bleeding and had charged the pipeline from the Waila Water Treatment Plant to the Wainibuku Reservoir.
He says water flow normalised to the Wainibuku Reservoir at around 3pm yesterday as they will focus on refilling reservoirs to operating levels.
Soderberg says restoration works to normalise supply commence from midnight into this morning with anticipation of meeting 90 percent restoration to affected areas.
He says they would like to thank the people for their understanding and patience and for taking heed of the advice for storing water this weekend.
Minister for Public Works Ro Filipe Tuisawau inspected the work site and acknowledged the teams involved in the work.
He says these works are essential and entailed about 20 hours of work to build resilience, redundancy and reliability in the Suva-Nausori Water Distribution Network.
Water carting trucks are on standby to assist when needed.
