More job opportunities for unemployed people are expected for those in Wailevu in Labasa as three ponds are in place to harvest crabs, mullet and milk fish.
Department of Fisheries in the Northern Division is working closely with Kini’s Allied Industries to finish the project by April this year.
Department of Fisheries said that nearby villagers will be given opportunity to work on pond farms before and after the harvesting season.
However, department said that two of the major factors affecting the progress is the heavy rain and the hatching of crab and fish babies which is seasonal.
