The Water Authority of Fiji emergency response teams has moved to immediately shut down, isolate and repair the Enamanu 500mm wastewater rising main in the Nadi Bay area which collapsed due to sustained heavy rain and may have resulted in diluted wastewater entering the adjacent water connection leading to Wailoaloa.
WAF CEO, Barry Omundson says for the safety of residents in the area, they immediately shut down the water supply, issued an advisory and are currently disinfecting the affected pipe.
Omundson says once all repairs have been carried out and disinfection is complete, they will restore the water supply.
He adds the assessment of the affected 80mm supply main has been carried out and after repairs, will be completely disinfected to maintain water purity.
Omundson says water carts were deployed immediately after the incident to cater to the people in the area.
He says they needed to ensure Fijians in the area had to access to water, especially considering the current COVID-19 emergency.
Residents are advised to contact 5777 if they are facing issues.
