Firefighters and Lautoka City Council workers are continuing to battle a fire that has been raging at the Vunato rubbish dumpsite since last Thursday.

The Lautoka City Council says with the dry spell currently experienced in the Western Division, part of the Vunato dumpsite was on fire by 3:45pm last Thursday.

It says due to the quick response of the council workers at the rubbish dump with the assistance of firefighters, the fire was completely extinguished by 5:45pm last Thursday.

But on Saturday, the Vunato Rubbish Dumpsite was on fire once again and they are investigating the cause of that blaze.

Previously, there have been concerns about unauthorised burning at the site.

Residents that live near the site are also concerned about the smell of the smoke that has emanating from it since last Thursday.
