A man of simplicity and humility in the greatest form.
That is how Lawrence Tikaram described the late Master Filimoni Vuli Waqa, a man he had worked with for 35 years in running the region’s biggest athletics meet, the Coca-Cola Games.
Tikaram says Vuli Waqa was truly a son of Fiji who amplified what many of us are still trying to achieve, and that is service to others.
He says for almost 50 years Waqa inspired thousands of athletes to be where they are today through the Coca-Cola Games.
Tikaram says today they honour that man of God in the most fitting fashion with a farewell service at the Church of God to a servant who has served till the very end.
He says Waqa was at the last games to witness the fruits of his hands and because of that Tikaram says they are grateful.
Family, friends and members of the Fiji Secondary Schools Association, Oceania Athletics Association, Fiji Athletics, FASANOC and many more gathered to pay their last respects to Master Vuli Waqa today.
He was laid to rest at the 9 miles cemetary.
