Villagers of Volivoli in Sigatoka are the first to join the program of empowering communities to advocate for women and child protection.
The program was piloted in Koroipita, Lautoka and since then it has continued to expand with a total of 34 communities currently working with the government in eliminating all forms of violence against women and children.
Minister for Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation Dr Jiko Luveni presented their certificate to acknowledge their commitment to violence free program.
This program was one of the key priorities of the government and Luveni hopes that this platform will create a peaceful community that care for the wellbeing of women and children.
Meanwhile, Village Headman Rupeni Takavo said that the villagers have been informed about the Domestic Violence Decree and Crimes Decree, so they are very well aware of the laws in place and the consequences they will face if they break the law.
