Fiji born flyhalf, Ben Volavola made a dream debut start for the Waratahs by scoring a try but it was not enough to help his side as they lost 25-17 to the Reds.
22 year old Volavola who attended Veiuto Primary School came off the bench in the second half to score a superb try after breaking the Reds defence and finishing off the move by selling a dummy.
Volavola's try was converted which leveled the game at 17-all with 20 minutes remaining to full time.
A penalty edged the Reds three points in front with 10 minutes to go and a barnstorming run from Eddie Quirk, who beat five blue defenders, sent Ben Tapuai over for his second try and also sealing the victory.
Meanwhile in other matches, the Blues beat the Hurricanes 34-20 last night, Sharks won against the Cheetahs 29-22 while the Southern Kings claimed a victory over the Force 22-10 in their debut Super Rugby game this morning.
