Visitors to Fiji spent a total of $1.6 billion in 2015.
The Fijian government has set a vision to increase the total expenditure from visitors to $2.2 billion for the tourism industry by 2021.
This was highlighted by the Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Faiyaz Koya while speaking at the launch of the 2014 International Visitor Survey Report.
He says government recognises that the tourism industry is a key sector to Fiji’s economy.
Koya says that the International Visitors Survey is a major initiative of the Ministry that provides right information for both the policy makers and the industry.
He says that the survey captures all the relevant information that is appropriate to undertake further analysis and research and develop appropriate policies.
Meanwhile, Provisional numbers show that visitor arrivals for November this year totaled 62,488 compared to 59,579 for the same period last year.
It is an increase of 4.9%.
This does not include visitors that arrive to Fiji on Cruise Ships.
