The people of Viria village yesterday presented their traditional apology or “matanigasau” to the Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama for their wrong doings in the events of 2000 and 2006.
In presenting the “tabua”, Ratu Orisi Basituka said that in the events of 2000, when the people of Naitasiri came to the parliament complex, there were also some villagers of Viria that were part of the group.
He added that in 2006, when Commodore Bainimarama took over the helm in leadership, they criticized him and his Government for their actions.
Basituka stressed that they were led astray by people who thought only of themselves.
In accepting their apology the Prime Minister told the villagers that the Government will continue to prioritize development in the rural areas to help bridge the gap between those living in the village and the city areas.
Commodore Bainimarama was in Viria yesterday to commission the rural electrification project.
