We, as males, need to strip ourselves of our macho images and stop thinking that we will never succumb to cancer because of that macho image.
This was the plea made by Fiji Cancer Society President Phillip Low during the Movember Awareness Campaign Launch at Vinod Patel’s Centre Point Store.
Movember is an annual event held in November and involves men growing their moustaches to raise awareness of men’s health issues such as prostate cancer.
In Fiji prostate cancer is most common in men above the age of fifty.
Low says so far this year Fiji Cancer Society has spent more than $130,000 dollars on transportation costs alone to help patients.
General Manager of Vinod Patel and Home and Living, Sanjeev Mudliar says that there are unmet medical needs in areas that have the highest potential for impacting and extending the lives of men with prostrate cancer.
Meanwhile, to openly support this awareness, a number of Vinod Patel employees have pledged a ‘No Shave November’ and have promised to grow a mustache until the campaign ends on the 30th of next month.
Last year Vinod Patel had raised a total of $25,000 dollars through Movember and this year they hope to raise more.
