Villawood detention centre erupts in flames amid protests
The Villawood detention centre in Sydney erupted in flames as refugees took to the roof to protest.

According to Australian Media, the rioting last night came as the family of a Fijian man died at the detention centre in September last year pleaded with the state coroner to hold immigration authorities, Serco to account.

The former Fiji national Josefa Rauluni was detained at the centre and his death is the subject of a inquiry to begin in June however, his family wanted more than just the circumstances of his death scrutinized.

More than 30 firefighters were battling to control when they were attacked by the detainees.

It is believed that the fire started in the kitchen after a gas cylinder exploded.
