Villagers of Yalobi in Yasawa are hoping a new water source will be identified through a borehole drilling project currently conducted by the Geological Services Division of the Ministry of Lands.

The community is considered as one of the hot spot areas in terms of water scarcity during dry periods.

Villagers are dependent on rainwater during dry periods and in some instances have to cart water from Lautoka to meet the high demand.

There are 55 houses with a population of 300 people in the village.

The Ministry of Lands says the Yalobi drilling project is in its first stage where drilling works are in progress.

It says if the borehole drilling is successful, it will provide significant relief to the villagers and would promote better sanitation and hygiene practices.
