Good news for villagers of Waito Village in Tailevu as they can expect secured employment after the Agricultural Marketing Authority of Fiji successfully secured a 800-tonne order for ginger and has awarded the task of growing ginger to Waito Farms Pte Limited.
AMA’s CEO, Alvin Sharma says they had been looking for farmer clusters to ensure a consistent supply at the right price and they are also on the lookout for demonstrated commitment and dedication from potential farmer clusters.
Waito Farms Limited has also come on board to plant Ginger, Duruka, Dalo, and Chillies for the AMA.
Minister for Agriculture, Dr. Mahendra Reddy says along with Waito Farms, he will be launching some other commercial farms and more farmer clusters will be coming on board as contracted farmers with the Fiji Agromarketing.
The Ministry of Agriculture is providing all the planting materials to Waito Farms, who are expected to return these seeds in 3 years time. The Ministry will also provide technical assistance for this project.
