168 villagers of Natadradave in Dawasamu, Tailevu, now have access to safe and clean drinking water after the completion of their Rural Water Project.
The $212,765 water project included the construction of a new dam, the laying of a water main from the dam to the reservoir, the laying of a main from the reservoir to the village, and the construction of a 10,000 gallon water tank.
The completed water project has improved conditions for the villagers, as over the years, the villagers at times travelled to Vorovoro Village, approximately one kilometer away to fetch water.
Water Authority of Fiji Chief Operating Officer, Samanmal Ekanayake, said that the people of Natadradave had assisted the their team members in undertaking the project.
He adds that this empowers the villagers themselves to be responsible for ongoing maintenance and repairs and ensures the sustainability of their village water supply system.
