Welsh rugby star Gavin Henson has made a surprise switch to rugby league and there is talk of him being a contender for next year’s World Cup at the age of 39.
Henson was a controversial figure in the 15-man game who never appeared at a Rugby World Cup despite playing 33 tests for Wales and making the British & Irish Lions squad for their 2005 tour of New Zealand.
Henson stepped away from rugby last year when he was released from the Dragons, his 10th professional rugby club, though he never officially retired.
Now he has crossed codes and signed with struggling league outfit West Wales Raiders who play in League 1 and won just one of 20 games last season.
