Former Flying Fijians coach Vern Cotter has been confirmed as the Blues’ head coach for the next two years with ex-All Blacks midfielder Jason O’Halloran as his assistant.
Cotter will start with the Blues this week.
The 61-year-old former Scotland and Fiji coach and O’Halloran will work alongside members of the existing Blues coaching team.
It is Cotter’s first job since leaving his last role as Fiji head coach from 2020 to 2022
He says he would like to extend his thanks to the entire Blues organisation for putting their trust in him.
Cotter says he has watched this club thrive in recent years, and is excited by the challenge of taking them forward and building on what is a very strong base.
A former Counties Manukau back rower who had a long career in France, Cotter cut his coaching teeth with Bay of Plenty before spending two years under Robbie Deans as Crusaders forwards coach.
He made his mark internationally at French club Clermont Auvergne from 2006 to 2014, guiding them to three grand finals before winning the club’s first French Top 14 title in 2020.
Cotter hopes his experiences overseas could help take the Blues forward.
