Close to 140 students of Vatukoula Convent School in Ba are delighted and excited to move into their new classroom building after spending more than one and half year in tents since Tropical Cyclone Winston severely damaged their school building last year.
School Manager Father Nimilote Tetero says that after the cyclone, eight classrooms were badly damaged.
Father Tetero says that they had to ask the students from years five to eight to move into four tents that were set up and the lower classes were replaced in other rooms that were occupied by the upper classes that sustained minor damages.
He adds that now the children who were studying in the tents will be able to start their normal classes in the new classrooms that was funded by the government.
The total amount of funds used was $305,000.
He adds that students had to suffer in the hot sun and during rainy weather but all this is now over.
He stresses that the children will now have a chair and a desk each and they will also have a new library.
The School Manager says they are looking forward to get books for their library.
There are 254 students in the school.
